OK, so I used to drink a lot, which was a ridiculous amount of fun, and also came with depression, slothiness, sadness... and wasting my life and money. Now, I'll drink a little. And it's fun. Drinking makes me feel good, and it does the same for others, which leads to laughter, socializing, and fun. Alcohol, when used in moderation leads to fun. And I don't think it's by mistake that God made alcohol. I don't think it was a mistake when Jesus gave a hundred gallons of wine to people at a wedding party who already were drinking a lot.
I'd venture to say that alcohol is a blessing, and like all good things, too much of it becomes a bad thing. And to the people who are saying in their minds, 'HERESY!', abstaining entirely from alcohol isn't a Christian thing at all, it's an 'American Christian' thing. We look at drinking like it's a bad, terrible heathen thing. And I think it is, because some decades ago, Christians stopped drinking. People who binge drink lack self control... and where does that come from? love, joy, peace, patience... people don't need less alcohol, they need more God. And perhaps uptight Christian-bubblified Christians need more alcohol.
When I'm retired, I have an ambition to open a small bar/pub and be a bartender. It'll be like Cheers. No yelling, no dancing, no tomfoolery, just people being people, enjoying their God-given alcohol, and getting wise advice from the sage bartender that will be moi. And I'd hire some young strong stud like John Eubank to regulate the ridiculousness, and it'd be cool. Everybody'd know you're name, and it'd be a place where you could just let go, and relax. You could leave the worries of your world at the door, and just enjoy your time there. Call me crazy, but I think that bar just might be a wellspring of life, even spiritual life. Let me know if you want to invest :-P.
At this point, I'm going to stop blogging about things where no one agrees with me.

That made me laugh.
A thought-provoking post once again.
Omg, don't stop blogging about things just because people disagree with you. Don't be a wimp. Spout it.
Jesus did. ;-)
It's your "controversial" posts that are the best.
I'll drink to that.
I agree some drinking is alright, but just take these verse with you remember these verses everytime you reach for that second, third, or fourth glass:
Proverbs 23:
29 Who has woe? Who has sorrow?
Who has strife? Who has complaints?
Who has needless bruises? Who has bloodshot eyes?
30 Those who linger over wine,
who go to sample bowls of mixed wine.
31 Do not gaze at wine when it is red,
when it sparkles in the cup,
when it goes down smoothly!
32 In the end it bites like a snake
and poisons like a viper.
33 Your eyes will see strange sights
and your mind imagine confusing things.
34 You will be like one sleeping on the high seas,
lying on top of the rigging.
35 "They hit me," you will say, "but I'm not hurt!
They beat me, but I don't feel it!
When will I wake up
so I can find another drink?"
It is not talking about wine alone here, I don't think, but rather all alcohol. That said it is being applied tot hose who drink till they are drunk. The Bible definitely encourages drinking in moderation though.
For me alcohol and drug addiction runs on my dad's side of the family so it is in my genes and is best if I stay away from it
BTW in case you didn't know I am an investor so 10 years from now when you want to start your company come see me and if God continues to bless me like he has in my investments than I will more than willingly get you started.
thanks for the input John... this is definitely a gray area, and different Christians will draw our lines in different places. Where we draw that is not as important as this- that what we do, we do to the Lord (Colossians 3:17, Romans 14) :-)
