The Joy of Painting with Bob Ross
I just stumbled across a video of Bob Ross' old show on Youtube. Despite his unfortunate passing in 1995, the man was amazing. Not only was he an expert at what he did, he was also very good at having a conversation with himself. So I listen to this guy talk about happy trees, little stones, and fluffy clouds as if they were people- and I think he might be a little crazy. But when I watch him paint, my jaw just drops. Because it's beautiful. Just Beautiful.
I know he's a person that traveled a lot, not to see stuff like the Eiffel tower or the leaning tower of Pisa... but nature. He spent 20 years with the Air Force(thanks Wikipedia). You watch this guy and you just see an excitement that you rarely see in someone. He is captivated by the breathtaking images that he's seen, and he does his best to recreate them. Maybe I'm weird, but I just love watching the guy paint.
The last thing I noticed is that he cheerfully says, "God Bless" at the end of his shows. Now I don't know if he's Jewish, Muslim, Christian, or none of the above... but I'm pretty sure that he believes in a creator God. Not because he did science experiments, or because he logically deduced it sitting in a circle of intellectuals... but because he's seen the beauty of God's creation. We're surrounded by buildings and roads in our suburbs and cities... and everywhere we look, we see what man has made. It's funny how the more society advances, the more we forget about God. God, however, is not mocked. And no matter how hard people try to diminish him with their thoughts and words, his love, severity, and other aspects of his character do not change. He's not just my God, He's THE God.
Well, it'd be sweet to go somewhere in which all I see is what God has created. Until I do that... I'll probably be watching Joy of Painting every now and then.

Hey Jon--I love this dude. I used to watch him after school. It's almost hypnotic, the way he paints and his great attitude. I haven't seen him since I was a girl--and even now watching him, I can't turn the show off! I have to wait to the end to see what he paints. Thanks for writing about him and linking his show... =0) -Dawn
Bob Ross has never been mad in his entire life. You could punch him and he would say "hey guy its ok. Thats a happy little black eye"
